Invitation to Wicklow Launch 9th August

By Deirdre Burns

Heritage Week will take place from 18th to 26th August with events scheduled to take place at 60 different locations in county Wicklow over a space of nine days. This year as part of European Year of Cultural Heritage everyone is being asked to share a story, and make a connection. The theme has obviously resonated with communities, groups and enthusiasts all over Wicklow judging by the range and number of different events planned. Whether your interests lie in wildlife, archaeology, art, history, storytelling, music or outdoor activity there is an activity for you.

As in previous years the Wicklow Heritage Office has produced a free county event guide and all are welcome to attend the official launch of this on Thursday , 9th August at 6pm in the Brockagh Resource Centre, Laragh. This event will also coincide with the launch of the “Monastic Mappery” exhibition, focussing on the depictions of the Glendalough Valley via maps from 1600 to present.

National Heritage Week is co-ordinated by The Heritage Council and supported at a local level by Wicklow County Council. The majority of events are free and family friendly with plenty of activities to entertain, enthral and educate both school children and adults alike.
