Stacking the Coffins - Influenza in 1918 /1919 by Ida Milne

Dr Ida Milne will tell the story of the Influenza Epidemic in Ireland (1918/1919), known as the Spanish Flu, which caused the deaths of 23,000 Irish people. In her illustrated talk, Ida will outline the effects of the flu in Ireland. This will include interviews with people who experienced the pandemic as children.

Ida Milne graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a PhD. She worked previously as a journalist for Independent Newspapers and now lectures in European History at Carlow College (St. Patrick’s).  She published Stacking the Coffins: Influenza, War and Revolution in Ireland, 1918-19 last year. She is Vice-Chair of the Oral History Network of Ireland.
