A Call to Action - Our Wicklow Women

Looking for Your Stories

Deirdre Burns

In commemoration of the Representation of People Act of 1918 (allowing women to vote for the first time), Our Wicklow Heritage is  celebrating ‘Our Wicklow Women’ and is seeking your stories.

We are inviting you to submit your stories of women that have made a contribution to shaping their local areas,  or have played a role on national or international stages.

Whether heroic, humorous, tragic, uplifting or commonplace, this is your opportunity  to highlight Our Wicklow Women

Whether heroic, humorous, tragic, uplifting or commonplace, this is your opportunity  to highlight  women that may never have had any recognition for their role or achievements, and to celebrate and claim the achievements of more well-known women.

All stories will be archived on this site and will contribute to an end of year exhibition in county Wicklow, with one story selected for inclusion in an exhibition at the National Museum of Ireland - Country Life, during October and November this year.

Through this project, we aim to highlight the intelligence, skills, work, dedication and challenges of women that hail from, or have contributed to the well-being and development of our community. The exhibition in the Courtyard Gallery will be seen by thousands of visitors to the Museum of Country Life, who will be encouraged to visit Our Wicklow Heritage and the sister network of community websites in Ireland on iCAN to find out more.
