Homeward Trek:Coollattin to Canada and Back

A Wonderful Week in Carnew 20-27 August 2016

By Dianne Lawrence

Thanks to Kevin Lee, the Homeward Trek Committee and the wonderful people of Wicklow, my grandson and I enjoyed a fantastic week, August 20-27, 2016.  Descendants of the Fitzwiliam Coollattin Estate tenants evacuated to Canada returned 'home'.  The Trek was well organized and included tours of many historical sites.  Lawrence descendants retraced the steps taken by John and Martha Lawrence and their nine children 168 years ago when they left their stone cottage in Moyne for New Ross to board the Jessie, and the voyage to a new life in Canada.
