Evans Family of Arklow

By David Evans

I am interested in making contact with anyone who has information about the Evans family who lived at 1 Upper Main Street, Arklow, for many years and at other addresses in the town. I have been researching this family for a few years and can trace an Edward Evans back to 1801, his son John Fairbrother - who was variously described as a carpenter, bailiff, rate collector, shopkeeper, and house agent - and other descendants up to present times. The Church of Ireland parish records from Arklow were destroyed, hence my difficulty in going back into the 19th century.

Would your ancestor be John Evans 1893-1953 of Greystones, born of Charles Evans b.1858(Wicklow & Greystones) and Ann Wilmot b. 1858 (Dublin and Rathdrum)? Ann's father, William Wilmot born Rathdrum, Wicklow, was my 2nd gg.grandfather.
